The Scent Keeper

This. Book.

This book is the one that sparked my love for reading again.

The way Erica Bauermeister writes is beautiful. The way she describes settings and the small things we don't usually notice is gorgeous. As soon as I started reading, I was immersed in all of my senses In the setting of this book.

The plot follows a girl who has never really known who she was, or where she came from, but also was unaware of a bigger world than the one her father showed her. She was happy in her naivety. But when one moment turned her life around, the veil of nativity was lifted, and the big world she never knew of started to engulf her in curiosity and wonder. She misses the world she grew up in, but is drawn into this new world that helps her realize she can choose who she wants to be regardless of where she came from.

Bauermeister guides us through the greenery and beauty of a natural untouched world, passing through a sleepy rural coastal town, into the wonder of a bustling city. No matter where she leads us in this book, she leads with beautifully descriptive imagery as well as perfectly describing the nostalgic scents and layers within scents that associate with those setting.

This book took me out of my chair in my suburban setting room and into the world created by Erica. I can’t remember the last time I’ve read a book that made me cry or feel as nostalgic.

This book definately lands in my top 5 books of all time. If you’re looking for a book that engulfs you in a different setting, keeps you in your feels and on our toes… this is it. 10 out of 10 recommend to everyone.
